FAQS - Frequently Asked Questions

Please be aware that many events at TPAC enforce a CLEAR BAG ONLY policy. For questions regarding any specific event you are attending please contact our office.

-All events at TPAC have a strict no weapons of any kind policy.
-All events at TPAC enforce no outside food or beverage.

Accessibility

An accessible entrance is located on the Southwest corner of the building (located under the awning).There is one elevator located near the southeast corner of the building. Elevator accesses the main ground level floor and the basement level inside floor. No Balcony seating in the theater is accessible by the elevator. Admission

All guests entering Topeka Performing Arts Center must have a valid event ticket to gain admission unless otherwise instructed based on the event. For some TPAC events, children under 2 years of age may enter the TPAC free of charge, providing that they sit on the lap of a parent or guardian.

Retain your ticket stub at all times to ensure proper seat location. Please only sit in your own seat, as designated by the ticket, to avoid inconvenience to others.

Once you are admitted into the Topeka Performing Arts Center, there may be no re-admittance if you choose to leave. This policy is based on the type of event. Please call ahead for specific detail.

Aisles

For the safety and as a courtesy to other guests, aisles must be kept clear at all times. Please follow the directions of the usher in your section to your assigned ticketed seat and refrain from standing directly in the aisles.

Animals

Animals or pets of any kind are prohibited with the exception of service animals. Service animals must remain on a leash at all times. Please be prepared to present the service animal certification upon entry to the building.

Assisted Listening Devices

Assisted listening devices and sign language interpretation services are available by making advanced arrangements with Topeka Performing Arts Center at least 2 weeks prior to a scheduled event. For more information, call (785) 234-2787 x104.

Baby Changing Station

Baby changing stations are available in the men's and women's restrooms located on the lowest level of the building (basement level). See Bags, Backpacks, & Purses Policy.

Bags, Backpacks, & Purses

All large bags (ie: backpacks, suitcases, beach bags, etc.) will be prohibited from entry. Diaper bags and other similar bags will be subject to search prior to entry and must be accompanied by a child. Purses allowed must be 12" x 12" x 6" and are subject to search.

Banners & Signs

Banners and signs may not be hung or fastened anywhere in Topeka Performing Arts Center. Local events can be promoted with signage by submitting one poster to the Executive Offices located in the southwest corner of the building. Signage will not be hung for events conflicting with Topeka Performing Arts Center scheduled events.

Binoculars

Guests are welcome to bring their personal binoculars for most events at Topeka Performing Arts Center.

Bottles & Cans

No outside food or beverage is allowed inside Topeka Performing Arts Center. Glass bottles are not allowed inside the building. No drinks purchased inside the building will be allowed outside the building.

Box Office

The box office is located in the main lobby on the south side of the building. Hours are Tuesday - Friday 10am - 4:30pm. Doors open 1 hour prior to most events. There may be occasional door opening time changes for special circumstances.

Advance Tickets: To purchase tickets (if available) for upcoming events at Topeka Performing Arts Center, please visit the Box Office located on the south side of the building along 8th Avenue. If inside the building, the box office is located in the main lobby.

Child Attendance: For most shows children over the age of 2 years are required to purchase a ticket. However, this may vary by specific show. Only in instances where advertised, will an event offer child discounts. For specific show information please see each performance description. When in doubt give us a call at 785-234-2787.
***Please note that due to Fire/Safety Regulations child carriers are not allowed to be placed in the aisles or walkways.

Disabled/Wheelchair Seating
The main floor of the theater is accessible using ADA guidelines. Seats are available in various price levels. Contact the box office for questions regarding these seats. Disabled/wheelchair seating is available for purchase at the box office or online.

Lost or Stolen Tickets: Tickets that are either lost or stolen are the ticket holder's responsibility and cannot be refunded. Tickets can be reprinted as long as the following applies: the purchaser must be present at the box office with a valid ID matching the purchasing account name along with the credit card used to purchase the tickets. Any questions should be directed to the Box Office Supervisor.

Payment Options: Topeka Performing Arts Center accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Cash and Checks (no checks will be accepted within two weeks of an event). A valid driver's license with expiration date and phone number must be written on the check.

Returns/Changes/Refunds: If you purchase your tickets directly through Ticketmaster, please contact Ticketmaster directly for questions on returns, changes, and refunds. If you purchased your tickets through the Box Office, please note that no returns or refunds will be accepted. Refunds will only be issued in the event of a cancellation or rescheduled performance date.

Third-Party Tickets: Ticketmaster is the ONLY authorized ticketing agent for Topeka Performing Arts Center. If you purchase tickets from an unauthorized agent in the secondary market, you risk purchasing counterfeit or invalid tickets. If you wish to purchase tickets from the secondary market, we encourage the use of TicketExchange. TicketExchange is Ticketmaster's online service that enables premium fan-to-fan transactions. Only Ticketmaster can guarantee 100% legitimate tickets, because the tickets sold through TicketExchange are linked to Ticketmaster's ticketing systems.

Will Call: Will Call is available for various events per request of the ticket purchaser. Tickets can be picked up at any open box office window, during regular business hours, after the purchase is made. The individual picking up the tickets must present their valid picture ID. An order confirmation number and purchasing credit card may also be required.

Name changes will not be accepted over the phone and information regarding Will Call tickets will not be given out over the phone.

Camera & Video Policy

Camera and video policy varies by event. Contact TPAC for event specific information.

Basic Policy: No commercial or flash photography of any kind is permitted. Camcorders/digital recording devices or any other audio/visual equipment is prohibited unless authorized in writing by the TPAC Marketing Manager. Please contact marketing@topekaperformingarts.org for details.

Cancellations & Postponed Events

In the case of a cancelled or postponed event, ticket holders may request refunds at the original point of purchase (box office or through Ticketmaster). For a postponed performance, refund requests must be received 14 days before the new show date and written requests must be postmarked 14 days prior to the new show date.

Code of Conduct

Topeka Performing Arts Center is committed to creating a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable entertainment experience. Guests have a right to expect an environment where:

  • Guests will be treated in a consistent, professional and courteous manner by all venue personnel.
  • Guests will enjoy every event free from disruptive behavior, including foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.
  • Guests will consume alcoholic beverages in a responsible manner. Intervention with an impaired, intoxicated or underage guest will be handled in a prompt and safe manner.
  • Guests will sit only in their ticketed seats and show their tickets when requested.
  • Guests who engage in fighting, throwing objects or attempting to enter the stage or other prohibited areas will be immediately ejected from the venue.
  • Guests will not smoke in the venue, but in designated smoking areas only.
  • There will not be any obscene or indecent messages on signs or clothing.
  • Guests will comply with requests from venue staff regarding facility operations and emergency response procedures.
  • Guests will also be responsible for their own good time by reporting inappropriate behavior.
TPAC staff has been trained to intervene when deemed necessary and to use their best discretion to help ensure that guests who ignore the Code of Conduct do not interfere with other guests' ability to enjoy an event. Guests who violate the Code of Conduct may be subject to ejection without refund and, to the extent their conduct constitutes a violation of law, may be subject to arrest. Season ticket holders may also be subject to having their season subscription revoked. We thank you for your cooperation.

Concessions

Concessions are offered at most events. Beverages may include a full bar at select events.

Diaper Changing Stations

Located in the men's and women's restrooms on the lower level.

Elevators

There is one elevator located on the south side of the building that goes to the lower level. Access to the theater floor is available on the main level. No elevator access is available for balcony seating.

Emergencies/Evacuation

TPAC recognizes that its goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Security operating plans, TPAC staff, and security personnel will ensure the safety of all guests, performers, and employees at TPAC. In the case of an emergency, guests must comply with requests from venue staff regarding facility operations and emergency response procedures.

Entrance Locations

The main entrance for events is located on the south side of the building for access to the Theater and Box Office. Executive offices are located on the southwest corner of the building. Additional entrances are located on the southwest corner. Please monitor signage on entrance doors if your event attendance requires entrance through specific doors.

First Aid Stations

For first aid, visit the Executive Offices located on the southwest corner of the building.

Food & Beverage

Guests are not permitted to bring any outside food or beverages into Topeka Performing Arts Center. Containers, including but not limited to, bottles, cans, thermos bottles and plastic containers are not permitted for the safety and protection of our guests. Beer and alcohol sales end at times pre-determined by TPAC management or as dictated by the event.

All alcoholic beverages must be purchased inside Topeka Performing Arts Center. Guests are required to act in compliance with all state and local laws governing the purchase, possession, and consumption of alcohol. All guests will be asked to show a valid government-issued photo identification prior to being served alcoholic beverages.

Guest Services

Guest Services is in the Executive Offices located on the southwest corner of the building.

Hours of Operation

The box office is open Monday-Friday, 10am - 4:30pm. Executive offices are open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

Lost & Found

Lost and found items are held at Guest Services, which is located in the Executive Offices. After the event, they can be claimed Monday-Friday.

Lost Children/Missing Persons

Guests are encouraged to report a missing person(s) to anyone on the Topeka Performing Arts Center staff. Staff will work closely with the Topeka Police Department and TPAC Security to help locate any missing individual(s).

Merchandise

Merchandise stands for most events are located in the main lobby on the south side of the building.

Parking

The City of Topeka has three parking garages within one block, which contain 1,413 spaces.

Parking areas:

  • TPAC is also easily accessed by public transportation via Topeka Transit, (785) 354-9571, and by ride-share services..
  • Disabled parking is available on the premises and requires an official and valid handicapped hang-tag permit.
  • More than 1,700 public parking spaces are located within a 750-foot radius of TPAC
  • Street parking is available at metered spaces; meters are free after 6:00 p.m. weekdays, and all day on Saturday and Sunday
  • Parking is not allowed at any time in designated loading zones
  • Please take note of which lots are private parking lots. Unfortunately, we cannot authorize TPAC guests parking in these lots and your visit to Topeka may become less pleasant paired with fines if you park in these areas.

Keep in mind for daytime event parking:
  • Plan where you will park ahead of time.
  • During special events, plan to use a parking garage or lot. Metered parking is limited around special event areas.
  • Plan your route ahead of time.
  • Prepare to park away from the event site. Wear comfortable shoes to walk to your destination.

Prohibited Items

  • Weapons of any shape/size
  • Outside food and beverages
  • Cameras with detachable lenses
  • Computers, laptops, or tablets
  • Cans, bottles, coolers, or other similar containers
  • Video or audio recording devices
  • Laser pointers or laser pens
  • Noise makers
  • Signs/flags/banners/posters/pamphlets
  • Bags: Backpacks, large bags, suitcases, or other similar bags
  • Animals (excluding service animals)
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Tripods/monopods

Recording Devices

Guests may not bring audio or video recording devices into the theater. These devices include, but are not limited to, video cameras, camcorders, and audio recording devices. Any equipment not conforming to these rules must be removed from the premises.

Re-Entry Policy

Re-entry varies per event. For most ticketed events, re-entry is allowed through the south west door with a valid ticket that was scanned out upon exiting.

Restrooms

Women's restrooms are located on the east side of the building on the main floor and on the west side in the balcony and lower basement levels.

Men's restrooms are located on the west side of the building on the main floor and on the east side in the balcony and lower basement levels.

Security Search Procedures

All guests are subject to search upon entry. This may include bag checks and wanding. Any person refusing search will not be admitted.

Smoking Policy

There is absolutely no smoking permitted anywhere inside Topeka Performing Arts Center. The designated smoking area is located outside the southwest doors. See Re-Entry policy above for policies on exiting and re-entering the building.

Strollers

Strollers are welcome inside the building for young children and infants but are subject to search. For safety reasons, strollers cannot be left in the aisles. Call ahead for details or questions. 785-234-2787 x100.

Weapons

Guests, including law enforcement personnel not present in an official capacity, are prohibited from bringing weapons into the building. TPAC does not provide weapon lockers. Weapons may not be checked in at the Box Office. Weapons include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Firearms
  • Explosives
  • Stun guns
  • Handcuffs
  • Brass Knuckles
  • Sticks/Clubs/Batons
  • Martial arts instruments
  • Pepper spray/Tear gas
  • Knives
Guests found in possession of the above-mentioned items will be asked to remove the item from the building. Guests who refuse to comply will be ejected from the building and may be subject to arrest.

Wheelchairs

Wheelchairs are available for temporary transportation to seating upon request. Please contact the Box Office at 785-234-2787 x104 or ask any event staff personnel.
